The East Wing of the White House will be replaced by a 90,000 square-foot ballroom that can seat 650 people (although President Trump recently mentioned it can hold 999 people). The white and gold behemoth will be nearly twice
the size of the main White House building. The cost estimate has increased from $200 million to $300 million.
The
Presidential Emergency Operations Center (PEOC) bunker which was buried deep beneath the East Wing in the 1940s will be upgraded. The White House Military office will handle the renovation of the PEOC at an undisclosed cost.
The current PEOC is accessible via elevator behind multiple vault doors. It is unknown whether emergency access to the PEOC during construction is even possible. Luckily, the Raven Rock Mountain Complex is just a short flight away.

Demolition of the East Wing of the White House took place in October 2025. As of 10/23/25, the White House East Wing is completely gone.

Reports are surfacing about sleuths following dump trucks around the capital in search of the final resting place for the East Wing debris. Several news sources are reporting that truckloads of dirt are being dumped on the East Potomac Golf Course at Hains Point.
